This watch is accompanied by an extract from the archives confirming its manufacture and subsequent sale in 1945.
This watch is probably one of only two examples ever produced of this reference, one being cased in stainless steel, no. 864470, and one in yellow gold, the present watch. Interestingly, these two only known watches of reference 1591 have consecutive movement numbers, 864470 and 864471. One assumes that these
Above-mentioned watches were part of a small series, but interestingly neither the numbers below nor above match with the specifications. Even further research in literature, archives and auction catalogues has not resulted in the discovery of a third example of a wristwatch of this reference.
The movement of the present watch is a calibre 12"' sc q, based on an ebauche12''' By Patek Philippe, to which an indirect center-seconds drive was added by Victorin Piguet. In combination with the module for the perpetual-calendar, one must assume that the then-called calibre 12"' sc q was only made for these two watches.
Reference 1591 was the first center-seconds perpetual-calendar wristwatch with screw back ever produced by Patek Philippe, making it a direct predecessor of the famous reference 2438/1.
