SIHH 2011 - Hommage au vintage

Jules Audemars Extra-Thin. The redesigned Jules Audemars line – “a contemporary interpretation of a proud heritage, pays tribute to tradition” – perfectly embodies the Salon’s main trend: classic 1960s dial, thin case, elegant appearance. © Audemars Piguet
Capeland 1006 flyback chronograph. The sportier Capeland line was created in 1998, but was restyled with a retro-look that includes tachymeter and telemeter scales for the SIHH 2011. The main star from this year’s Baume & Mercier collection, the Capeland 1006 flyback chronograph, drew inspiration from a 1948 model. © Baume & Mercier.
1966 Petite Seconde. Perhaps the brand to first start using the name “Vintage” in a collection (way back in the 1990s), GP’s classic offering among this year’s new products is the 1966 Petite Seconde with an enamel dial inspired by a 19th century pocket watch. © Girard-Perregaux.
Portofino 8 Days. This was the reinvention year of the Portofino, a line created in 1984 to conjure up the spirit of the Dolce Vita of the 1960s. Its new case-dial combination really evokes the Swingin’ Sixties, although in a contemporary size. The Schaffhausen-based manufacture even offer a retro-styled Milanaise bracelet. © IWC
Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea. Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Reverso, the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 has to be the most celebrated re-edition of the year. It was not enough for Jaeger-LeCoultre, however, as the manufacture from Le Sentier also introduced two re-editions of the Memovox Deep Sea (originally created around 1959 for the European and the American markets). © Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Bressel Hommage Daniel. It’s a quite young brand, but bears the name of the man considered to be the father of Swiss watchmaking. The Bressel Hommage Daniel, with a lacquered dial, is inspired by a pocket watch dating from 1710. The Highlands collection from the 1990s was revived with the Highlands Sand, and the Aquascope, inspired by a 1960s model, now boasts a ladies’ version. © JeanRichard.
Saxonia Thin. The Saxonia line is yet another personification of the biggest trend from the past two editions of the SIHH: pure and minimalist elegance. Three refreshed models grace the latest incarnation of this deeply German line. © A. Lange & Söhne.
Vintage Pulsographe. The new Vintage Pulsographe from the Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 transports us back to the 1930s; Montblanc’s watch manufacturing expertise is still fairly new, but gained a lot of status in becoming a manufacture after the acquisition of Minerva, classic chronograph specialists established in 1858. © Montblanc.
Bronze Luminor Submersible. No big complications this year for Panerai: the Florence-based brand invested so much in the vintage spirit that it even introduced a watch – the Bronze Luminor Submersible – whose looks become progressively more vintage with the patina on the case. © Panerai.
Tonda 1950. Arguably the most beautiful Parmigiani model to date, the name of the Tonda 1950 says it all: another case inspired by the post-World War II period, pure and elegant with teardrop-shaped lugs as a main feature. © Parmigiani Fleurier.
Altiplano automatic 43 mm. First presented in 1998, the Altiplano line is powered by the evolution of the brand’s 1957 ultra-thin movement. The new Altiplano line – slim as ever – offers “a watchmaking interpretation of the fanciful, rebellious spirit of the 1960s.” © Piaget.
Chronograph La Monegasque. Can such a novel brand come up with a heritage-inspired line? So it seems: the refreshing new La Monégasque line, boasting a neo-classic cushion case, is a heir to the Sympathie models of the 1990s. © Roger Dubuis
Patrimony Contemporaine Perpetual Calendar. Despite boasting two lines branded with the predicate Patrimony (Traditionelle and Contemporaine), Vacheron Constantin has another model family that dwells even deeper within Vacheron Constantin’s history: the Historiques. This year’s choice was an interesting rectangular case inspired by a model from the 1950s with an original double rounded design on its flanks: the Historiques Aronde 1954. © Vacheron Constantin.
Slim Classique in white gold with guilloché. Since its launch three years ago, Ralph Lauren’s star models have followed the neo-vintage tendency while exuding modern feel for classic style. The new square version of the Slim Classique has definite classic proportions inspired by the grand era of Art Deco, and coming in at only 27 mm on each side. This is a true gentleman’s wristwatch. © Ralph Lauren.
