Academia Tourbillon Différentiel Diamants Noirs, a winning combination of understatement and sheer class
This stunning model features a particularly powerful blend of understatement and class. The Tourbillon Différentiel Diamants Noirs asserts its presence with supreme elegance thanks to an imposing case clad in an elegant suit of black baguette-cut diamonds and housing the most refined of all Haute Horlogerie mechanisms, the Tourbillon.
This spectacular and yet paradoxically discreet creation explores a rare and original path by combining white gold with two 103 baguette-cut diamonds set on the bezel, middle and lugs of the signature DeWitt Academia case. Meanwhile, the crown is set with brilliant-cut black diamonds. This precious pairing is teamed with the Tourbillon Différentiel® developed by DeWitt.
Patented in 2005, the Tourbillon Différentiel® has taken its place in the history of creative watchmaking and represents a significant breakthrough with respect to the basic operating principles of a mechanical movement. Like the Tourbillon à Force Constante®, a world first that also focuses on the very essence of mechanical calibres, the Tourbillon Différentiel® was a landmark invention providing tourbillon-equipped mechanisms with an ingenious power-reserve winding device.
While the regulating organ itself – the tourbillon – serves to enhance the precision of a mechanical watch by compensating for the effects of gravity, the differential system developed by DeWitt enables a two-thirds saving in winding time. While traditional watchmaking had already come up with mechanical means of achieving this goal in the shape of spherical or layered planetary gears. The value of the system created by DeWitt lies in the drastically simplified construction of a conventional planetary gear, substituting wheel arms for the two sets of contrate teeth on the rack-and-pinion wheels.
