Description

If there is a brand which lacks nothing in tradition and stories to tell, it is Cuervo y Sobrinos. Even in their most innovative creations, the firm never loses sight of its origins and complex personality, a mixture of exoticism and state-of-the-art Swiss technology.

With the new Historiador Semanal (“Weekly Historian Torpedo”), Cuervo y Sobrinos brings to life again one of their most emblematic historic models.

The firm Cuervo y Sobrinos was founded in La Habana at the end of the 1800s, during the heyday of the Cuban capital.  It became a point of reference in the world of watchmaking and reached its pinnacle during the period from 1940 to 1950. The Historiador Semanal is a revival on a modern note of the Cuervo y Sobrinos dating back to the 40s.

The original mechanism was created and subsequently patented in 1944 by a Fontainemelon manufacturer of Swiss movements. Cuervo y Sobrinos was using this original movement during many years between 1945 and 1955. The Swiss Watch manufacturer decided to reproduce this calibre, creating their own module to enhance the original product. Two years’ research was devoted to developing this model and the result was well worth the effort.

The main characteristic of the CyS module is the immediate reading of the weekday and date. Innovation in relation to the original movement was the introduction of the week number. It is this detail which gives it its name “Semanal” (weekly). The indications of days, dates, months and weeks of the year, are arranged in a circle around the dial.

Two crowns are placed at 8 and 10 o’clock. One regulates the month and week, and the other regulates the date. The crown at 3 o’clock regulates hours and minutes.

The case is slighter larger than the original 40s’ design, while maintaining a vintage touch in the dial graphic, available in two versions – black or white. The result is a timeless classic. This is an elegant timepiece capable of satisfying a refined, demanding public seeking luxury products that endure and withstand ever-changing current fashions.

Historiador Semanal: a watch of Swiss technology which eloquently recounts the story of its Cuban soul.
