Rules of the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix - 2009 Edition

The prize-giving ceremony of the 2009 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix will take place on Saturday 14 November 2009 at the Geneva Grand Théâtre under the presidency of the City and State of Geneva.

ARTICLE 1
The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix is open free of charge to all watch brands, without distinction of nationality or criteria of price.

ARTICLE 2
The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix comprises eleven awards:
- The Grand Prize of “L’Aiguille d’Or” (the “Golden Hand”)
- Special Jury Prize

- Ladies’ Watch Prize
- Men’s Watch Prize
- Design Watch Prize
- Jewellery Watch Prize
- Complicated Watch Prize
- Sports Watch Prize
- Electronic Watch Prize
- Best Watchmaker Prize
- Public Prize
In addition, a special prize will be awarded to the best first-year student at the Geneva Watchmakers' School.

ARTICLE 3
In order to take part, watch brands must submit their candidacies by 30 June 2009 (see article 11). Participation will be limited to watches commercialized after March 2008 – apart from the Complicated Watch Prize, open to watches commercialized after March 2007 – and at the latest by 31 December 2009. The jury reserves the right to propose models that are not spontaneously selected by the watch brands themselves. Photos and descriptions of the competing watches will be presented on the www.worldtempus.com website from 15 July 2009.
The Grand Prize of "L’Aiguille d’Or" is awarded to the best watch overall (all categories). The Best Watchmaker Prize is awarded to the most creative watchmaker of the year (no registration needed for this prize)

A multidisciplinary and international jury has been established, composed of:

Out of competition and jury member:
François-Paul Journe, winner of the 2008 "Aiguille d’Or" Grand Prize.
The winner of the "Aiguille d’Or" Grand Prize is automatically out of competition and member of the jury the following year.

ARTICLE 5
For the first round of voting, the members of the jury shall select ten watches from each category and, on ballot cards carrying their names, give each watch a grade from 1 to 10. The watches with the highest scores shall be the ones taken into account. The counting of the votes shall be done under the supervision of a bailiff. This first round shall serve to preselect ten watches in each category.

ARTICLE 6
A second round of voting shall take place. On secret ballots, the jury shall grade the watches selected during the first round of voting. The counting of the votes shall be done under the supervision of a bailiff.
The members of the jury, assisted by the bailiff, shall meet on the afternoon of 13 November, the eve of the prize-giving ceremony, in order to validate the results. The names of the prize-winners shall be revealed at the prize-giving ceremony held in the Grand Théâtre.

ARTICLE 7
The Public Prize is awarded by the visiting public at the exhibition of preselected watches or online at www.worldtempus.com and partner websites.

ARTICLE 8
The watches preselected by the jury, according to article 5, shall be exhibited in Singapore (end of September 2009) and in Geneva (October and November 2009). The preselected watches unavailable for the exhibitions will be disqualified.
The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix is responsible for all costs of exhibition. As a participation of the travel costs of the watches to Asia, an amount of CHF 1000 will be requested for each preselected watch.
An asian public prize will be awarded by attendees of the exhibition of preselected watches in Singapore.

ARTICLE 9
The winners of the various prizes shall be invited to donate a specimen of each winning watch to the Watchmaking and Enamelling Museum of the City of Geneva, which will dedicate a showcase to the history of the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix.

ARTICLE 10
The name "Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève" and the associated logo are trademarks of the organizer of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
The prize-winners are authorized to use these trademarks on condition of imperatively respecting the following requirements:
- the trademarks may appear only in association with the watch which obtained the prize and on a well defined support or in a well bounded frame (whatever the nature and the shape of these), any other watch being excluded on the same support or in the same frame ;
- specific mention must be made of the category and the year in which the prize was won, directly below the respective trademarks ;
- prize-winners wishing to use these trademarks in any other way must obtain the prior written approval of the organizer, who can refuse it without justification.

ARTICLE 11
Candidacies must be submitted by 30 June 2009 at the latest to:

The following documents will be required (in both digital and paper formats):
- Photos of each watch (minimum 300 dpi, JPEG, RGB colors)
- The logo of the brand (EPS or AI format)
- Descriptive text of each watch, obligatorily in both English and French (Word or PDF)
- Duly completed application form (to be downloaded at www.worldtempus.com), specifying in which category the watch is competing (the same model cannot compete in different categories).
- Duly completed Excel File “GPHG Candidature” (to be downloaded at www.worldtempus.com and sent with others digital documents)

ARTICLE 12
Participation in the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix automatically implies adherence to all the rules and regulations.
