BULOVA — Celebrates Tuning Fork Timing

At Baselworld 2010 Bulova reissues a loyally designed Accutron tuning fork timepiece in honor of its fiftieth anniversary.

It was exactly 50 years ago — in 1960 — that Bulova’s Accutron brand unveiled the ultimate in precision timekeeping: the world’s first fully electronic watch boasting a tuning fork movement. This timepiece utilized what was known as a tuning fork instead of an escapement to power the oscillating circuit.

At Baselworld 2010, in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of that creation, the brand now unveils the Accutron Spaceview limited-edition timepiece. Created in stainless steel and outfitted with a curved sapphire crystal, the watch features a fully open dial allowing a view of the unusual tuning form movement and electronic wiring. The color scheme of the outer hour and minute ring as well as the movement accents is kept to Accutron signature green. Only 1,000 pieces of this exquisitely crafted watch will be manufactured. It comes in a specially designed wood and Plexiglas display case and is accompanied by an official plaque displaying its number of limitation.
