Pin-pallet escapement

This escapement is similar in form to the lever escapement; the stone pallets are replaced by steel pins. It is a robust escapement and is less expensive than the Swiss lever escapement. Until recently, its use has been confined to alarm clocks and the Roskopf watch. The pin-pallet escapement could never claim to supplant the lever escapement, even in watches of very middling quality, as it has the drawback of requiring frequent oiling. If well made, however, it delivers good results; it is superior to the cylinder escapement which it is increasingly superseding.
