Pendant

The pendant is the part of a pocket watch that is fixed to the case middle. The different parts of the pendant are the pipe, the head and the neck or body. The foot is the invisible part of the pendant soldered inside the case middle. After the mid-19th century, the pendant, crown and bow were incorporated into a single whole whose shape and size were tailored to the style of the case. In wristwatches, the pendant is reduced to a small cylindrical stem on which the winding crown turns. The pendant winder is a mechanism that enables a watch to be wound by the crown as opposed to the winding system on early pocket watches which involved a key or pushbutton.
