Douzième gauge

This instrument was invented in the late 18th century for measuring the widths of the different "ligne" fractions, "twelfth of a ligne" in particular. It was also used for gauging 1/10ths of a millimetre. Despite its imperfections, it proved serviceable and was used for over a century by all clock and watch makers.
