Alternance

Movement of a pendulum or oscillating body within two consecutive extreme positions. The balance of a mechanical watch generally makes five vibrations per second, i.e. 18,000 vibrations per hour. An oscillation ("tick-tock") equals two vibrations (the word oscillation is sometimes incorrectly used to refer to a vibration).
