The Hermès workshops in Bienne

In 1978, Hermès founded its first production workshops dedicated to the watch creations of the House.

In 1998, Hermès reasserted its determination to pursue the harmonious development of its watchmaking department by equipping La Montre Hermès (LMH) with new workshops. 1999 witnessed the inauguration of the new three-storey 3,800 sq.m. premises (compared with 1200 sq.m. previously), located just a stone's throw from the previous site.

The building was designed by François Ceria, of the Paris-based Ceria & Coupel firm of architects.

The architectural concept reflects a modern conception of production facilities, as do the Ateliers Hermès in Pantin, France. Natural light, which is essential to high-precision watchmaking work, floods through the glass building. The central patio and the workbenches are arranged facing the scenery outside.

Actually, a 100-strong personnel is employed in Bienne including 13 people working in the new leather strap workshop.
